Finnishman in London

"Time will tell if the focus will narrow in the course of time." Ha ha ha ... I let this act as a preable to the rather free-style writings in this blog. Mostly casual observations in real life and media, some sports, even self-ridiculing attempts at poetry;)

Is it just me or is this a bit odd?

Welcome To The Wankbahn (Our Summer Cable Car) The sunny mountain for the entire familiy (sic)

The website of Bayerische Zugspitzbahn in Catholic Bavaria, Germany

When you are ready for more activity, you can romp in the meadows with your favorite companions (we are pet friendly and welcome dogs) ... or bring your plane and take advantage of our ...

Why did I find these? Well, to cut a long story short I did some research for a story. But the Google search did have some should I say rather grave consequences.

Letters from Beyond is a special place that allows you to leave your last statement to the world... something everyone can remember you by once you are gone.

Perhaps due to the slightly eerie undertone the site carries, its twelve years of existence has apparently produced only four entries. Maybe it is because it is late or something else but I would like to reproduce one of the entries here, even if it somehow feels like peeking into someones personal life. But I hope the bigger context will be clear.

LOVING YOU

Who knows what will happen before I get back... But I want you, Jennifer, Kea and Becky, to know that I love you. I'm sorry Daddy had to go away, but I will always be thinking of you, no matter where I am, in this world or the next. You have to know that, and whenever you feel alone, come and read this, and you will know that I'm with you in spirit.

Sgt. R.B., U.S. Marines

Put it simply, touching. Hopefully not a last online entry. And an example of where searching for "romping in the meadows" can lead you to. Even googling the phrase does not produce more than a handful of individual results. Let us finish with one. I promise, the last.

Even then I knew only good kids get to romp in the meadows of heaven with Jesus. And little boys who like other little boys and want to get to know other little boys (in the Biblical sense of know) were not welcome.

Strange things

There you go. One in this is me, I'm afraid...

Sometimes you do things can seem kind of awkward afterwards, especially if you need to explain about them to others. So yes, it was a party for someone about the get married. A great friend, with very persuasive friends, made this strange thing happen. And yes, i can (just about;) look at this with a smile. In any case, it is a noble duty to ride to the rescue when the dire straits is ... getting really dire.

PART TWO:
An overheard conversation, in another party.

(Girlfriend) I've met with David Hasselhoff, and been inside KITT [the famous car of the even more famous Knight Rider]

(Boyfriend) Were you in the front seat or the back seat?

(Girlfriend) I was twelve.

Any learning point here? Maybe that it's not only the guys who can cut conversations short ...

PART THREE: A job ad that is a sign of tougher times?

Job title: Reporter
Date posted: 16/05/2006 Closing date: 16/06/2006
Publication/web site title: The Lawyer
Full details: Hungry reporter needed for the leading legal newspaper, The Lawyer.

"You will have one to three years' reporting experience, preferably with some knowledge of the legal market or the City ..."

Good Lordi! On top of Hard-rock Germany

View of snow-covered solidified lava, atop Zugspitze, 10000 feet

Just a quip... after coming back to Finland from Germany where some mountain-hiking and photography took place by the author.

We are the winners of ... Eurovision. Well, have been for over a week now. Will the world ever be the same again? Hmmm... That's something to ponder.

There are some things that just do not happen. Like it raining from the ground to skies, instead of the normal direction. Well, I cheated. Even that can happen in extraordinary weather conditions. Fish has rained from the skies, as proof of that, believe me, I have read that from somewhere!

The whirlwind of votes we got surely counts as a perfect example of a similar phenomenon. When enough diverse forces unite, something unusual can happen.

Protest-vote, show-vote, shocker-vote, rocker-vote, a-not-too-bad-at-all-band-vote.

I was in Oberstdorf, the southernmost town of Germany at the foot of the Alps. In the summer an eerie quiet mostly prevailed, even on a Saturday night.

But after walking around for a while, I came across a pub where the telly was on. Some half a dozen of youths gathered around the tube.

I was told the place was closed, it was a private party.

But after I asked how is Lordi doing, as I am from Finland, I suddenly became their guest of honour.

Free drinks, debate and sights of the guys showing a finger to the telly whenever we got 12 points ensued.

One of the guys, Leo, in fact claimed not to have ever before watch the Eurovision song contest, before this year. And the guy was bit older than five.

Germany gave us ten, not twelve. But then again, there are a good few million of Turks living in the country ...

Well, next year it is our turn to organise the competition.

That should be fun ... just hopefully it won't become embarrassing.

Surely lighting does not strike twice in the same spot, does it?
